Detox Breakfast: Steel Cut Oatmeal

Steel cut oatmeal are least processed,therefore makes it healthier for you.

40 studies show that eating oatmeal may help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. According to Quaker, all it takes is 3/4 cup of oatmeal each day to help lower cholesterol. The soluble fiber in oats helps remove LDL or "bad" cholesterol, while maintaining the good cholesterol that your body needs. In January 1997, the Food and Drug Administration announced that oatmeal could carry a label claiming it may reduce the risk of heart disease when combined with a low-fat diet.

Oatmeal aids in achieving soluble fiber which slows down your digestive process which controls your appetite. This recipe proves to be beneficial and tasty.


Steel-cut Oatmeal
For serving of 3
The least processed among oats, even more so than rolled or instant oats, which allows slower metabolism within your body. This is one of the best choices among the detox diet breakfast recipes. It is also recommended for you to spice up the taste with the addition of fruits.
•    3 cups of water, juice or rice milk
•    ¼ teaspoon of salt
•    1 cup of steel-cut oats
•    1 tablespoon maple syrup
•    Add water and salt to a boil over high heat in a saucepan
•    Add steel-cut oats and continue to boil
•    Reduce heat to low, cover and cook for about 15 minutes
•    Turn off the heat and let it stand for 2 minutes until it thickens
•    Add maple syrup before serving
You may add fresh fruit for additional sweetness or replace maple syrup with fruit. I  like fresh peaches, bananas  or apples.

Vegetable Salad with Mango and Chilli



Ingredients

225g/8oz white cabbage, cored
2 carrots, peeled
1 firm, medium mango, peeled and stoned
1 red chilli, deseeded and finely sliced
1 tbsp sunflower oil
3 tbsp sunflower seeds
4 tbsp pumpkin seeds
juice 1/2 lime
2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
1 (140g) bag watercress, spinach and rocket salad

Method

Finely shred the cabbage and place in a large bowl. Coarsely grate the carrot and mango then add to the bowl with the chilli.
